This small luxury hotel combines the height of luxury with history. Located near Times Square and the theater district, it was originally a political club, built in 1904. In 1939, it was sold and had other lives as an office building. In 1999, Jeff Klein bought the building and opened his hotel in 2001. The rooms have been restored back to the “gentleman’s club” feeling and the original name has been restored.
There are 9 floors and 65 guestrooms, designed in New American Classical style by Jeffery Bilhuber. The room sizes go from “petite”, which is a 195 sq. foot room at a relatively affordable price, to the “Grand Duplex Suite”, which is the height of luxury, with a price tag to match. Guests are pampered with details such as two telephone lines in each room and bathroom, DVD players and libraries, and in-room safe deposit boxes.
Award-winning chef, Daniel Boulud, runs the DB Bistro Moderne which serves French-American cuisine. The bistro has two dining rooms: one is casual and vibrant, and the other is subdued and intimate.
This New York hotel is definitely a favoritie of who’s who in New York. But you won’t see celebrities posing in the lobby. Jeff Klein says that his hotel is for private and discriminating people, and effort has been made to make it feel like you have come home.
