City Club Hotel

This small luxury hotel combines the height of luxury with history.  Located near Times
Square and the theater district, it was originally a political club, built in 1904.  In 1939, it was
sold and had other lives as an office building.   In 1999, Jeff Klein bought the building and
opened his hotel in 2001.  The rooms have been restored back to the “gentleman’s club”
feeling and the original name has been restored.
There are 9 floors and 65 guestrooms, designed in New American Classical style by Jeffery
Bilhuber.  The room sizes go from “petite”, which is a 195 sq. foot room at a relatively
affordable price, to the “Grand Duplex Suite”, which is the height of luxury, with a price tag
to match.   Guests are pampered with details such as two telephone lines in each room and
bathroom, DVD players and libraries, and in-room safe deposit boxes.
Award-winning chef, Daniel Boulud, runs the DB Bistro Moderne which serves
French-American cuisine.  The bistro has two dining rooms: one is casual and vibrant,  and
the other is subdued and intimate.
This New York hotel is definitely a favoritie of who’s who in New York.  But you won’t see
celebrities posing in the lobby.  Jeff Klein says that his hotel is for private and
discriminating people, and effort has been made to make it feel like you have come home.

10 of the Best Spa Hotels in New York

Posted by admin on November 10, 2009
Luxury Hotels, Thalasso / Spa / No Comments

More commonly heard as “spa” in the United States, its lesser known moniker is becoming more and more popular, most likely due to an internet audience being truly global. In much of the world, spa therapies is known as thalasso, a derivative of a greek word, thalassa, which means sea. The therapy is based on the notion that sea water, sea weed, mineral salts and trace elements carry curative as well as preventative properties.

Although this system was significanty developed in France, it is now an omnipresent part of many of our lives world-wide.

Waldorf Astoria

main_lobbyOne of the most famous hotels in New York City is the Waldorf Astoria New York Hotel and Resorts. Located within walking distance from such popular attractions such as the Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick’s Cathedral,Times Square and shopping at 5th Avenue. From the moment you walk in the lobby you are greeted with a beautiful fragrance of fresh cut flowers. Their first class service is what keeps guests coming back time after time. The concierge is very helpful with directions and great recommendations for nearby attractions, so just ask.

Almost every U. S. President since Herbert Hoover has either lived or stayed there, recently including President Obama. For a whopping $7,000 a night you too can enjoy some history in the presidential suite. Many of the pieces that furnish the 4 bedroom suite on the 35th floor were donated by past presidents.

If the presidential history doesn’t thrill you, maybe the eateries will. They offer many dining choices inside the hotel. Peacock Alley is an upscale fish and seafood restaurant by day/night with an amazing Sunday brunch, located right inside the main lobby. Chic.tv describes it as the “Most Luxurious Brunch in New York”. Diners can enjoy their brunch while listening to live music. For all you steak lovers out there, Bull and Bear is the place for you. With their ginormous portions of USDA Certified Angus Beef® Prime, (first restaurant on the East Coast to serve) you will definitely leave with a full stomach. Don’t forget to stop by the bar before you leave and taste one of their signature drinks like the “Bull and Bear”. Easy enough to remember, right?

With so many choices to dine at, great walking distances to popular tourist attractions and world class history; how can you go wrong? One obvious tip: don’t forget your camera!

Hotel in New York - New Yorker

The New Yorker, located in Midtown, is a good all-around New York hotel, and is one of the most popular hotels in New York City.  It has a price range and clearly defined categories for room accommodations, to fit all tastes and needs.  It is luxury at a value price – with many rooms that include beautiful views of the City, the Empire State Building, and other attractions.   Amenities include Premium Broadband Wi-Fi, a business center that is always open, and complimentary access to the Fitness Center.  There is also a semi-formal dining room, along with a diner that is open 24 hours. The meeting rooms and banquet rooms have a sharp and crisp feel to them.  The hotel is proud of its wheelchair accessibility features, and is ADA-Compliant.  In the hotel literature, it is pointed out how New York City, itself, is surprisingly wheelchair accessible.  We think you will be very comfortable at this hotel, and it is one of our personal favorites.

W New York

The top of the line decor and technology in this hotel is truly spectacular, with first class rooms and accommodations.  The room designations range from “Cozy room” to “Extreme wow suite”, which is a 750 square-foot penthouse, with amazing views of New York City.  The W New York is located in the center of the city and is close to Grand Central Station, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, the Theater District and world-class shopping.  It is in walking distance of midtown Manhattan.  Our reviewers especially enjoyed walking to Central Part and the Museum of Modern Art in just minutes.

No one beats the W hotels in innovative features, such as something they call Sensory Set Up for boardroom meetings.  These set ups are geared towards satisfying all five senses, using techniques such as aromatherapy, candles and inspiring games.  Whether you visit the W New York for business or personal travel, to say the least, you will really feel pampered here.  There is a two-story spa and a fitness center.  You can even bring your pets!

The Heartbeat restaurant serves Latin American cuisine, and is perfect for an intimate dinner.  Afterwards, head over to Whiskey Blue to experience the elegant nightlife at this candle-lit cocktail bar.

Hotel Novotel New York Times Square

Luxury Hotels / No Comments

Hotel Novotel New York Times Square is very conveniently located, at the corner of 52nd Street and Broadway. It is the best New York hotel we have found in this section of New York for a family vacation. The prices are reasonable, and each room can accommodate 2 adults and 2 children – and children under 16 stay for free. They have very good family packages, including one half price for an additional room for children if you need it. The breakfast buffet is exceptional, with a wide selection and balanced breakfast. We especially like the Kids’ voyage guide books written for children – they are fun and educational.

This hotel is also one of the best New York hotels for business travel and meetings. The staff is very professional and experienced about how to set up for business meetings. They know what works for successful business meetings and events, and work hard to help you meet your requirements and achieve your business goals. For example they would recommend a U-shape setup if you have a trainer and want to encourage discussion among participants – or they would recommend having no chairs in the room if the participants will be doing role playing. The meeting rooms are exactly what you need: simple, spacious and elegant.
